AN AMPUTEE OUTDOOR PERSON

ELMARIE O'bRIEN

About

welcome to my humble abode...

This is my small cosy corner of the internet where I will share stories from walking Te Araroa - New Zealands 3000 km Thru hike. It took 4 and a half months to complete, and a lot happened along the way... 2 hospital visits, 150 km of canoeing, 1 helicopter, 2 tent breaches, 1 police ride, 2 gunshots, 1 romance, and 8 best friends. These experiences have added an incredible richness to my life and now its time to give back.
Since I was 6 years old I have been a member of Reach. Reach is a charity across Ireland and the UK that supports people with upper limb differences. They have been an integral part of my journey as an amputee, from normalising limb difference to the bursary scheme, helping fund adaptions. I am sharing my Te Araroa stories in aid of Reach to honour all they have done for me and continue to do as a charity.
